“AI – It’s here, we are using it, let’s work together to get the best for all the people we support.” – Liz Sewell FIEP

The IEP, supported by the Centre for Employability Excellence (CfEE), is setting up a new AI Working Group to explore how artificial intelligence can be effectively and ethically integrated into employability services.

AI is already transforming the way we work, and employability professionals are beginning to see its potential in supporting those furthest from the job market. From instant translation tools to CV and cover letter generation, AI can help advisers provide more personalised, accessible, and efficient support—but we must ensure it is used in the right way.

Why AI? A Perspective from Liz Sewell FIEP, Director of Belina GRoW CIC

“I love technology, I am an early adopter and an evangelist. So you will not be surprised that I see AI as the tool we have been waiting for to level up the playing field for those furthest from work. With so much happening at a national level, we now need to show how agile we are as a sector—embracing the best and ensuring the people we support get better, more personal support. So I am excited to be part of the new IEP group that will be doing just that.”

AI can revolutionise one-to-one support by giving advisers powerful tools to create useful resources faster:

“I believe we are at the start of a paradigm shift in what we do. AI allows us to offer better support to those further from work because we can focus on engagement, confidence, and motivation. AI won’t replace advisers—it will make them better at their job. So let’s share our expertise.”

What Will the AI Working Group Do?

The AI Working Group will bring together frontline practitioners, technology experts, and employability leaders and stakeholders to explore the practical and ethical applications of AI in employability services. The group will assess how AI can enhance adviser capabilities, improve job-seeker support, and increase accessibility while ensuring that technology remains a tool for empowerment rather than a replacement for human interaction. By working collaboratively, the group will develop guidance, trial innovative AI tools, and help shape best practice for integrating and maximising opportunities for utilising AI in the employability sector.

Next Steps

We are currently in the process of setting up the group and inviting key participants. The first meeting is planned for March 2025, where we will define our priorities, structure, and goals.

We will be sharing regular updates as this initiative develops, including insights from our discussions, key findings, and opportunities to get involved.
