In the interview below, Tiffany shares her passion for supporting individuals in their career journeys, the evolving challenges in employability recruitment, and why professional development and recognition matter in our sector.
1) What does winning Member Ambassador of the Year mean to you personally and professionally?
I honestly couldn’t be any happier and prouder. I absolutely love the hidden gem of a sector we are in and get to call this work. Having previously worked as an Employment Advisor and now helping the fantastic organisations with the sector recruitment needs as a Talent Acquisition Manager for Trigon Recruitment, I get to bring new talent in as well as promote the amazing stuff the IEP does.
2) What do you find most satisfying about the work you do as an employability professional?
The most satisfying part of this role is genuinely helping and supporting individuals. I have a genuine love to help others.
3) What are the main challenges in your role?
This is more the recruitment side. At the moment it is about the client’s expectations compared to the market out there. The job market has changed a lot recently with candidate’s expectations and we want to bring the right talent to the sector.
4) What does being part of the IEP community mean to you, and how has it supported your journey so far?
Everything about this community is great, everyone has the same goal and passion which is evident to see at events. The networking is always brilliant and I have made genuine connections over the duration of being part of the IEP community.
5) Why do you think professional development and recognition, through organisations like the IEP, are so important in our sector?
To ensure a level of consistency and a professional standard which we should all be following within our role and the IEP provides this quality of service. Especially with outside factors changing now with the use of AI etc.
6) What does being an employability professional mean to you personally?
Personally, it was the best thing I ever did, I came from a background of being a Retail Store Manager for a numerous amount of years then when Covid affected a lot of individuals I had to look at new options as my store was being closed down and the options given to me where not suitable. I came across an advert by Ingeus, calling out for various sectors to become an Employment Advisor and that is where my journey began, and I have not looked back since. Going to work and helping individuals change their lives for the better and the people around them and being part of participant’s success stories, nothing beats that. I always prided myself on being relatable I faced many challenges in my life and I just want to empower individuals.
7) What would you say to someone considering a career in Employability – and what keeps you passionate about the work you do?
I always speak to individuals about how I don’t see myself as a Recruiter, I see myself as an Employment Advisor and I especially ask these questions: If you have a passion to help people – do it! If you have a back story or faced challenging issues in your own life – do it! Because you are being there for someone and just by you giving them information, advice and guidance and supporting them through their journey, you are changing their lives for the better. Plus, it just simply is the best career to have!
