When we first introduced the Award in AI for Employability, it was in response to early signals that artificial intelligence would begin to influence recruitment, job search and employer behaviour. At that point, many employability professionals were aware of AI but unsure what it would mean for their roles or how it could be used appropriately in practice.

Since then, both the Sector and the technology have moved on.

AI is now embedded in many of the systems our participants encounter and in the ways employers recruit, sift and engage. That’s why we refreshed the Award in AI for Employability — to ensure it reflects the reality of employability practice today and supports professionals to work with confidence, integrity and clarity in a changing landscape.

The current version, Award in AI for Employability 3.0, has already been delivered to several learning groups. Learner feedback has played an important role in shaping and strengthening the award, ensuring it remains practical, relevant and grounded in frontline practice.

Learning That Aligns With Our Mission

At the Institute of Employability Professionals, our mission is for employability professionals everywhere to be the best they can be. Everything we do is designed to support that — through learning that strengthens day-to-day practice, builds confidence and supports long-term professional development and career progression.

The refreshed Award in AI for Employability sits firmly within that mission. It is not about technical mastery or becoming an AI specialist. It is about understanding how AI is already shaping employability and using that understanding to support participants well, while maintaining professional judgement and ethical standards.

What’s Different About the Refreshed Award

The Award in AI for Employability 3.0 is not the same qualification that was originally introduced several years ago.

Working with Earlybird as our development partners, we have refreshed the content to reflect how AI is actually being used across employability and recruitment now.

The refreshed award:

This ensures the learning remains current, credible and directly applicable to practice.

What Learners Tell Us Changes in Practice

Learners consistently tell us that the biggest impact of the Award in AI for Employability is how it supports their everyday work.

They describe:

One learner summed it up perfectly:

“AI is already reducing the labour-intensive parts of the role, which means we can spend more time on the IAG aspects that really make a difference.”

This is about improving the quality of practice, not replacing professional expertise.

Supporting Confidence and Ethical Practice

Many learners come to this award with understandable questions and concerns. Some have felt unsure about whether using AI is appropriate, while others worried it might undermine their professionalism.

The refreshed award creates space to explore those concerns openly.

Learners consider:

As one learner reflected:

“This learning helped me understand that AI can enhance the way I support my clients, rather than replace what I do.”

That clarity is key to confident, responsible employability practice.

Professional Development That Supports Progression

This award is also about employability professionals themselves — their confidence, capability and progression.

Learners gain:

Many learners tell us they feel better equipped to contribute to conversations about employability, technology and workforce change — both within their organisations and across the wider Sector.

That is exactly what high-quality professional development should do.

Looking Ahead to February

The next Award in AI for Employability 3.0 session takes place on 25th February and will build on learning that has already been delivered, tested and refined, informed by learner feedback and Sector insight.

It is well suited to employability professionals who want learning that:

Our aim remains the same: to support employability professionals everywhere to be the best they can be — now, and as the Sector continues to evolve.
