Big Dog Little Dog

Big Dog Little Dog is a small social enterprise that delivers training and consultancy around the areas of mental health and employment.

Formed in 2017 by two men with over 40 years’ experience in our sector, BDLD aims to help public, private and voluntary sector organisations to build their capacity around mental health and employment issues.

The Big Dog Little Dog metaphor represents our service offer - the “Big Dog” approach is a dynamic set of services aimed to grab the attention - from single presentations at conferences to the delivery of highly relevant, effective training such as Mental Health First Aid, Workplace Stress Risk Assessments and Managing Disclosure. These services operate best when highly visible and attention grabbing, just like a big dog. They aim to enable employers, service providers and decision makers to identify positive approaches that can contribute to the evidence that work is good for wellbeing, as well as considering approaches to managing staff/supporting customers etc.

The “Little Dog” service offer is built around quietly and calmly helping organisations to develop the way in which they operate, from the design of delivery models and service integration to the review, development and roll-out of quality systems and working practices. This includes areas such as embedding psycho-education in employment support, staff and management training,  integrating mental health and employment services and ensuring that good practice is learnt from, shared and implemented.

It's also true to say that the Big Dog Little Dog metaphor comes from the company’s founders – two men with many shared thoughts, values and passions but with a very obvious physical difference…..!

The Big Dog is Kevin Moore FIEP – founder of Future Path and the creator of a number of innovative models, including the PACES© vocational profiling tool and the 5-stage stress risk assessment framework. A former mental health service user, he has been in the employment services sector for 22 years and led Future Path to become a forerunner in the world of combined mental health and employment support.

The Little Dog is Bob Kitchin – the former CEO of Twining Enterprise, with a fantastic background in mental health rehabilitation services and employment related services. Bob has international experience of the delivery of mental health services, and led Twining to become only the second organisation (and only non-NHS Trust) in London to achieve the IPS Centre of Excellence standard.

Both are accredited Mental Health First Aid instructors, as well as being highly experienced at bid development, leading organisational change, managing services, supporting commissioners and delivering Jobcentre Plus’s own Enhanced Mental Health Training Course.

In the 12 months that they’ve been operating, their training services have received amazing feedback, some of which can be seen on their Twitter page (@BDLD_CIC). Testimonials from a range of different organisations and learners are available upon request, and strongly demonstrate that these two are not your average trainers……..
