IEP Australia’s Fellowship program is continuing to grow, bringing together a diverse collection of employability leaders from around the country.
Among those to be admitted to the program recently is June Alexander FIEP, a lecturer and researcher in the Disability and Community Inclusion Unit at Flinders University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
“With over 30 years of experience working in disability employment, including time as CEO of a best-practice rural disability service in South Australia, my career has always been grounded in supporting people with disability to achieve meaningful, inclusive lives,” Dr Alexander says.
“Becoming a Fellow of the IEP is a meaningful milestone that reflects my commitment to bridging research, policy and practice in pursuit of more equitable employment systems. It provides a platform to contribute to sector-wide conversations, share evidence-based strategies, and advocate for employment approaches that are co-designed with people with lived experience of disability. This Fellowship strengthens my ability to influence systemic change and support inclusive, sustainable employment futures.
“My research is dedicated to improving employment outcomes for people with intellectual disability, with a particular focus on Customised Employment and specialised on-the-job training strategies such as Systematic Instruction. I explore a broad spectrum of employment models, including open employment, social enterprises, microenterprises, and Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs).
“My work has examined microenterprise ownership among people with physical and/or intellectual disability, as well as employment opportunities for people with intellectual disability created within the aged care sector.
“I’m also interested in how people with disability influence workplace practices and how innovations – like virtual reality – can enhance on-the-job training. Much of my recent work has involved evaluating projects that support school-to-work transitions and the shift from ADEs to more inclusive employment models.”
We’re thrilled to have June on board, sharing her expertise and helping us to improve employability services around Australia.
